Many thanks to Rorschach Records an Mouthbreather! We got these little gems for $4 a dealio!
Curtis from Rorschach says…
Florida and Richmond Round 2, this time we have paired Richmond’s Mouthbreather and Florida’s Environmental Youth Crunch for one of our best splits yet. Spread out in the Northen part of Florida and sharing members withTubers and Alligator, EYC have managed to drop 3 solid tracks of punk rock that lies somewhere inbetween traditional pop punk bands and Plan-It-X South bands. On the flipside Mouthbreather debut their first 2 new tracks since last years Thank You For Your Patience. These gentelemen were born from Wow Owls and The Set Up and play a form of hardcore similar to late 80’s Dischord and Hot Snakes. This record was beautifully illustrated by Tyler Thomas and includes a digital download. This record comes on white vinyl limited to 100 copies, orange limited to 200, and black limited to 200.
The blistering vinyl debut of Civilization is back from the (test) pressing plant!
500 of these with some fancy silk screened covers will be all ready to roll out soon! Many thanks to Ross from Bring Back The Magic! A most righteous split label release indeed.
DTR-027 Civilization “s/t” LP
The Civilization LP is at the plant. We got all the jackets to reverse, paint and screenprint. Things are moving along nicely. This is a split label release with a fellow Florida librarian Ross Martin’s label “Bring Back the Magic.” Listen to things here http://myspace.com/civilization
DTR-028 Alligator / Sweat Lodge 7″
Alligator recorded. Sweat Lodge just recorded. They are sending me the recordings. Also a split label release with “Bring back The Magic.”
DTR-020 Defiance Ohio / Environmental Youth Crunch 7″
Going into it’s third pressing of 500. We have a few left of the second pressing so scoop it up while you can. This edition will have hand stenciled covers on reused cardstock, and include bonus professional CDEP of EYC’s first EP. Most excellent.
DTR-029 Cassette “s/t” LP
Old baker Rich Diem is back from tour and hopefully this split label release will be seeing the light of day soon.
DTR-030 Tourist Trap 7″
Most songs under a minute. Fast. Slow. Mixing Florida’s musical genes for a fresh taste of punk with members of Environmental Youth Crunch, Civilization, and Soulman and Breeze. Female vocals. Harsh times. Listen to some junk recorded at a practice here – http://deadtankdistro.com/touristtrap/

Streetcleaner “Mother Curse” 7″ _ $4.00
Streetcleaner are a brutal blastcore band from the Texas area. Musically raging along the lines of powerviolence and stop-and-go blasting, combined with angry spitted vocals. This brings to mind bands like Severe, and more crucial to-the-point blasting bands.
No Man’s Slave “Siege Mentality” 7″ _ $4.00
No Man’s Slave from Oklahoma bring a few elements to the table. Fast and anxious vocals over ripping thrashcore. Fast and blasting beats, in the same vein as Thrak. Combining stop-and-start powerviolence breaks with some catchy fastcore parts and shout-a-longs. This comes together to bring you a furious ear blasting.
Bizarre X / Loaded For Bear “split” LP _ $9.00
Fourteen new Bizarre X tracks of uncompromising drum’n’bass/grind madness with a typical Spazz influenced sound. That will be a surprise yeah. They are a legendary power-violence band anyway, complete with smart and educated lyrics. Next up is Loaded For Bear from Chicago. Their sound is a monster crash of death metal, hardcore and grindcore – fast heavy spastic loud caustic. Similar to Brutal Truth, Lack of Interest, and Drop Dead.
No Class “Trendy” CASS _ $4.00
Young and rowdy catchy punkrock. Real snotty, and raw. Catchy and pissed off vocals, with sing-a-long parts. This reminds me of bands like Warkrime, but with a younger rage.
Noise Reduction #1 feat. Insect Warfare, Severe and more. ZINE _ $2.00
CIVILIZATION “s/t” What is it about Florida—or the South in general—that creates such dirge? There seems to be a dirty, swampy edge bands get from down that way. This two-piece guitar and drum combo, out of Jacksonville, Florida lays down some down-tuned aggression. Reminds me of the band Black Cobra with their Sabbath-ish, stoney riffs but with the punk energy of HolyMountain. Brooding, yet with a solid punch of energy at times to keep it interesting. The recording has a live feel to it. Would like to hear what comes out when they go all-out in the studio. Cool use of a used Blockbuster Video DVD case. They recycle! –Donofthedead / Razorcake
Also in the “Upcoming Releases” department we have two new gems slowly on the way…
Cassette “s/t” LP
Cassette is Samantha Jones. Though the live and recorded manifestations of Cassette may take on many forms–sometimes alone and unguarded with just acoustic guitar and voice, while at other times backed by a rotating band of friends–the songs and the warm, compassionate, inviting feelings projected from them are wholly Samantha.
Known by many from her days with bands like Rumbleseat, Bitchin’, and Crustaceans, Samantha’s work in Cassette is a departure from her past. All defenses have been lowered, and we are welcomed into the heart of Samantha’s experience- told in a frank, honest, and organic voice. The themes vary on the album from songs that express heartbreak in terms that even the most heartbroken can relate to, to skillfully woven narratives that make listeners feel as though the singer is giving heartfelt advice directly to them. The tracks reflect a spectrum of musical influence from the country twang of “Spring’s Gone” to the jazzy lilt of “Thirst Like Water.” With this self titled release, Cassette has produced a record in the vein of David Grubbs, Will Oldham, and Lucinda Williams.
On this particular manifestation, Cassette is Samantha on guitar and vocals, backed by Stirling Krusing (piano), Gabriel Galvin (drums & percussion), and Matt Radick (bass and cello), all resident musicians of Gainesville, Florida. The arrangements on the album are beautiful and complimentary. No single instrument struggles for attention, which allows the focus to fall on the songs, and Samantha’s literate, insightful lyrics. Samantha has a voice that’s hard to encapsulate with words. Her talent is timeless and comparable to classic singers like Billie Holiday, Janis Joplin, or Emmylou Harris. She sings so good it’ll make your heart ache.
This will be a split release with Bakery outlet Records. The test press for this is done and sounds great!
And then…
Alligator / Sweat Lodge 7″
Alligator is a wild band to say the least. Loud and untamed yet twistfully dancy, all the while maintaining a decent amount of pleasure-ful tidbits. Featuring members of Tubers, Environmental Youth Crunch and more. Sweat lodge is a new band from members of Brainworms, Stop It!, Tigershark, The Assistant, and Operation: Latte Thunder. Raging, heavy, fast, stoney, noisy tunes about the woods, desert fauna, vision quests, and the end of the world.
“CIVILIZATION “s/t” CD – Mid-tempo crust with a heavy ecological preservation vibe in the lyrics. I am reminded at times of HIS HERO IS GONE during the dark sparsely played heavy parts, or SAMHAIN when the music is goth and mid-tempo rocking and BORN AGAINST during the heavy and mid-tempo riffs. This thing is pretty fucking awesome, and I think CIVILIZATION is just two people, but sounds like a full band, including a second guitarist! Great demo!” – Vinnie / Maximum Rock and Roll #309
$4ppd from Dead Tank Records
I’ve gotten in some new stuff – I’ll be posting it up soon.
Thanks,
-Josh
Whew. Big week. Nothing to do with the label or distro though, sorry. Amber and I have a dog now. Her name is Hannah. An early Christmas present puppy from Jacob and Rich in St. Augustine. Lots of pictures in the flickr.
I called in sick today… and by the time I got up and did puppy stuff it was lunch time. No internet at the house means I update this from Panera. This place is gross and loud. Anyway, forgive there being no descriptions for these items. I just want to be out of here.
Funeral Shock “III” 7″ _ $3.50
Funeral Shock “Paint Thinner” 7″ _ $3.50
Vile Nation “s/t” 7″ _ $3.50
Weekend Nachos “Punish and Destroy” LP _ $8.50
ANS “The Pool” LP _ $8.50
Alligator “Prehistoric Reptilians” LP w/ CD _ $8.50
Cowboys Became Folk Heroes “s/t” LP _ $8.50
So, another Gainesville fest come and gone. Twas quick and fun. One of the better moments for me was the house show with Pink Razors, Brainworms and Cult Ritual.
I played at The Kickstand with Environmental Youth Crunch and – that show was amazing! That place is amazing. I still don’t know a whole lot about it, but the inside and outside- ness of it was certainly enjoyable.
We sold a good amount of records, although this picture is from last year. And I just updated the list. So be sure and check that for what you’d like to order.
I got some more trades in from The People’s Republic of Rock and Roll in St. Augustine and Black Water Records in Portland. Underground Road To Candyland and Autistic Youth rule! I typed up some more older stuff I had from the store as well.
Enjoy, and see you at THE FEST. – Josh
2 Pac “Pacs Life” 2xLP _ $16.00
Autisic Youth “Empty Eyes” 7″ _ $3.50
Some killer melodic smashers here! …similar to early eighties California. Not far of from The Adolescents or the harder songs on The Descendents Milo goes to College.
Bafabegiya / Acts of Sedition “split” LP _ $7.00
Two bands that do hardcore right. Both bands play old school style hardcore mixed in with some chugging metal here and there. Good stuff!
Black Dice “Smiling Off” LP _ $11.00
Electronic squiggles carry microscopic lifeblood from limb to limb.
Black Sabbath “Born Again” PICLP _ $13.00
Black Sabbath “Mob Rules” PICLP _ $13.00
Filth of Mankind “The Final Chapter” LP _ $9.00
It is some fucking awesome doom laden crust a la Stormcrow and the like.
Forca Macabra “Aquie o Inferno” LP _ $9.00
Forca Macabra´s new album “Aqui é o inferno” (“The hell is here” in English) is kiler! It was recorded at the Sonic Pump Studios in Helsinki, Finland, and contains 13 songs of intense and passionate 80’s brazilian styled thrashcore with Portuguese vocals all trademarks of Forca Macabra since they started in 1991 and have since released well over a dozen records! This being their 3rd full length; featuresmembers of Selfish, Kuolema, Kansan Utiset etc. Cover art by legendary japanese artist SUGI!
Lachance “s/t” (worn cover) 10″ _ $7.00
Mid Carson July “Ten Years on Autopilot” LP _ $7.00
New Brutalism “Territorial…” LP _ $7.00
.. introduce a much more raw noise rock element to their sound. While there are influences from shellac still influence, the raw rock edge completely dominates on this recording. Sort of sound like UNSANE covering SHELLAC songs at points.
Scrotum Grinder “The Greatest…” LP _ $8.00
Unrelenting! Explosively powerful creative thrash marked with tough metallic breakdowns, floor-punching chunka-chunka, and raucous female vocals. Speeding hardcore filled with abrasive twists and turns, violent vocal trade-offs and dark and thoughtful lyrics. This debut album from Tampa, Florida’s Scrotum Grinder follows two well-received singles on Florida’s Burrito Records. Scrotum Grinder is composed of members of the bands Hankshaw (though they sound nothing alike), Failure Face, along with Steve Kosiba, who was in “Misery Index”-era Assück and lead vocalist, Michelle who is a punk rock crowd-leaping terror and later sang in Momento Mori! “The Greatest Sonic Abomination Ever” is by no means a repeat of past bands or sounds, this tears with inventiveness and imagination while still keeping even keel with a destructive hardcore path, an apocalyptic dark ride with lyrical hope and inspiration as a guide
Sole “Plutonium – Selling Live Water” LP _ $8.00
The follow-up 12 inch to Sole’s acclaimed full length “Selling Live Water’ has finally arrived. The title track is a remix of “Plutonium”, the classic, Alias produced, Sole- anthem about searching for truth in left and right wing propaganda in the press. Alias remixes his own beat down to it’s teeth, creating a Blade-Runner-ish eeriness to sole’s already dark ponderings.
Sole “New Single” LP _ $8.00
Limited new Anticon 12″ from Sole’ prior to his soon come third studio album ‘Live From Rome’. ‘Sim Carne’ produced by Odd Nosdam rocks slacker drums, psych keys and a super dope vocal from Sole – folkier then his usual aggressive slant. ‘Every Single One Of Us’ is produced by Anticon star producer Alias – a rustic funker that would sound very correct on Bully, Sole’s vocals multi tracked for a pure old school Anticon headbuzz effect.
Strikeforce Diablo “The Albatross..” LP _ $8.00
Strikeforce Diablo employs an angular, post hardcore sound that swerves from tight, tribal drum and bass rhythms to scene stealing bombastic choruses that drip with the righteous angst that only down and out indie rockers seem to be able to summon.
Underground Road To Candyland “”Bird Roughs” CASS _ $4.00
In true understated fashion, we must say that Underground Railroad to Candyland rules. We are stoked to be a part of this. The Record and cd came out on Recess Records. There is also a version of the cd that was released in Japan by Underground Government Records! Anyway….this project includes members of TOYS THAT KILL, and F.Y.P.
Listen and see Underground Road To Candyland here..
Got some new jams from the People’s Republic of Rock and Roll (the tapes) as well as a trade from Josh of Syracuse’s Barbarossa Records (Culture Shock / Daggers Rule) and the new CULT RITUAL 7″ from Chris at Drugged Conscience. Enjoy -Josh
Alligator “Prehistoric Reptilians” CASS _ $4.00
Welcome to The long awaited Alligator debut “Prehistoric Reptilians”. A wild release to say the least. Loud and untamed yet twistfully dancy, all the while maintaining a decent amount of pleasure-ful tidbits. Featuring members of TUBERS, ENVIRONMENTAL YOUTH CRUNCH, THE WINSLOWS and more….We’re proud of this one.
Brainworms “Tape” CASS _ $4.00 Tis True…..Welcome to PRcubed vol.4…..This is a BEAST. Somehow I wouldn’t call it fierce, and yet still worlds apart from tame…..It is perfectly executed. Brainworms are the tightest musical bros on the planet right now. While listening to this tape I realized, ”SHIT…this is the band that is going down in history…..and we’re all lucky enough to be around while they are writing it.” Anyway, we’re stoked about this if you can’t tell. This release is titled “TAPE” and it is sort of a singles collection; an excellent way to listen to all of those glorious 7″ splits if yer lazy and don’t want to change the records or if yer lazy and in yer car.
Cult Ritual “s/t” 3rd EP 7″ _ $4.00
Haven’t heard about these guys yet? Scroll down a bit, we posted a link to the bands discography online. If that suits your fancy, pick up one of these gems. A noisier release or sure.
Culture Shock “s/t” 7″ _ $3.50
These guys fucking hate everything! The nine songs on this CD don’t stray too far from the tried and true formula of straight-ahead hardcore. It’s really easy to play this style of music badly, but these guys have it nailed down. It sounds like they’re really into INFEST or DROPDEAD with a singer that sounds like a cross between Sam McPheeters and the guy from HOLY SHIT! The lyrics in the first few songs are a little generic (hatred of fucking everything ever!), but seem to mature throughout the CD, dealing with topics such as white privilege, body image, and having a father addicted to heroine. This is a good demo; I can see this band growing over time into a brutal, yet thoughtful hardcore band.
Daggers Rule “s/t” 7″ _ $3.50
There is something very endearing about this now defunct Syracuse band I can’t put my finger on. The music lies somewhere between street punk and metallic hardcore–normally a combination I can’t stand, yet DAGGERS RULE pull it off with enough catchiness and sincerity that I found myself flipping this record over and over again. Take the best parts of IRON CROSS, SHEER TERROR, YOUTH BRIGADE (DC), add a modern twist and you might just get DAGGERS RULE. This is really great stuff. Oh, the artwork is fucking top notch too.
Roomate “New Steam” 10″ _ $9.00
In addition to the title track, which will also be released on Roommate’s forthcoming 2nd album, the EP features covers of songs by Red Red Meat and Broadcast. It closes with an instrumental track initially conceived for Adrian Briscoe’s documentary The Love Life of Emidio Anotci, abou tan elderly Roman man’s memories of his late wife. This 10″ vinyl edition (in a limited run of 500 copies) includes letterpress artwork designed by Dean Rank and printed at Chicago’s Dexterity Press. Fancy!
